Origin
Donkey-hide Glue is the solid glue prepared from the skin of Equus asinus L. (Fam. Equidae ) by decoction and concentration.
Description and Identifications
In rectangular or square piece, dark-brown, lustrous. Texture hard and fragile, fracture lustrous, fragment brown translucent when looking against the light. Odour; taste, slightly sweet.
Chemical Ingredients
Almost of ingredients are protein, which are composing with collagen and its hydrolysate, and 16.43% ~ 16.54% nitrogen.
Property and Channel Tropism
Property: sweet in taste, neutral in nature. Channel tropism: lung, liver and kidney.
Action and Indications
To nourish yin and blood, to relieve dryness, and to arrest bleeding.
Anemia with dizziness; palpitation and muscular weakness; insomnia numbness and tremors due to deficiency of blood; dry cough; hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, excessive menstrual discharge, uterine bleeding during pregnancy.
Place of Production
Shandong, Zhejiang are the main production places. Shandong province is famous for the production of e jiao; while Zhejiang province boasts the largest output. Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjing, Wuhan, Shenyang are also the places of production.
Recipes of Medicated diet
1. Nuo Mi E Jiao Zhou
Polished Glutinous Rice Donkey-Hide Glue Gruel
[Ingredients]
15g e jiao donkey-hide glue (Colla Corii Asini )
60g polished glutinous rice some brown sugar
[Preparation]
Boil the polished glutinous rice with water to make porridge. When the porridge is almost done, add smashed e jiao and stir well. Boil for another ten minutes and serve. Administered at empty stomach in the morning.
[Effects and Indications]
Nourishing blood deficiency , arresting vaginal bleeding during pregnancy.
Deficiency of blood and qi, dim complexion, spiridessness and weakness, tonifying kidney for preventing miscarriage.
2. HaiShenEJiao
Donkey-Hide Glue and Sea Cucumber Decoction
[Ingredients ]
6g e jiao, donkey-hide glue ( Colla Corii Asini)
15g sea cucumber
[Preparation]
Dry the sea cucumber with function preserved. Grind it into fine powder. Each time,take 15g fine powder and 6g e jiao and stew them in 50ml water until e jiao dissolves. Adrninis-tered with rice water at empty stomach. Take it three times a day for 4 to 5 days.
[Effects and Indication]
Nourishing Yin and moistening blood deficiency.
Hemorrhoid due to blood deficiency.
3. E Jiao Ji Dan Tang
Donkey-Hide Glue and Egg Decoction
[ingredients ]
10g e jiao donkey-hide glue ( Colla Corii Asini )
1 egg
suitable amount of salt
[Preparation]
Melt e jiao with a bowl of water. Crack the egg and stir. Add it to the molten e jiao and boil. Add salt to taste. Taken once or twice a day.
[Effects and Indications]
Nourishing blood and Yin,preventing abortion. Threatened abortion due to the deficiency of Yin and blood, dysphoria, etc.
