Concha Meretricis seu Cyclinae (Gejie) — gecko
Origin
Tokay is the dried body of Gekko gecko Linnaeus. The drug is captured all the year round; remove from the viscera, wiped, opened with bamboo piece to make the whole body flattened and straight, and dried at a low temperature.
Description and Identification
Flattened slice in shape, head, neck and trunk 9 ~ 18cm long. Head and neck about one third as long as snout-vent; the dorsum and abdomen 6 ~ 11cm wide; tail 6 ~ 12cm long. The head somewhat flat triangualr.two eyes sunken deeply,forming holes. Tiny teeth present in the mouth,located at the margin of the jaw,heteromorphic large tooth lacking. The snout semirounded at tip,rostral not con-tactin nostril,but in contact with nasal; lsupranasal at each side, 12 to 14 pairs of upper labials,21 lower labials mental included. The trunk elliptic,the abdomen thin,the dorsum greyish-green spots scattered or concentrated to indistinct patterns. The vertebrae and ribs of both sides projecting. Four limbs all having 5 digits,bearing scansors at the base, and trace of web between the digits. Tail narrow and stong,the caudal vertebrae barely visible. Grund colour of the tail similar to that of the dorsum, with 6 ~ 7 distinct silver-grey circular band. Whole body densely covered with rounded or polygonal, somewhat lustrous,tiny scales. Odour,stinking; taste, slightly salty.

Property and Channel Tropism
Property: salty in taste, neutral in nature. Channel tropism: lung,kidney.
Action and Indications
To reinforce the function of the lung and the kidney, to relieve asthma, and to promote virility and replenish vital essence.
Dyspnea or asthma in deficiency syndromes; cough and hemoptysis in consumptive diseases; impotence, seminal emission.
Place of Production
It is mainly produced in Guangxi province. Guangdong, Yunnan, Hainan also produce Ge jie.
Recipes of Medicated Diet
1. Fu Fang Ge Jie Jiu (Compound Prescription of Gecko Wine)
[Ingredients]
1 pair of ge jie, gecko ( Concha Meretricis seu Cyclinae )
( Removing cephalopidium, primary crushing)
15g dong chong xia cao, aweto
30g huang qi, astragalus root ( Radix Astragali )
1000g distilled spirit
[ Preparation ]
Put ge jie, aweto, huang qi and distilled spirit into the pottery or glass container and seal it. Leach the liquid when it has been marinated for twenty days. Take 10ml to 20ml of it every morning and evening at empty stomach.
[Effects and Indications]
Tonifying kidney and yang,benefiting qi and soothing asthma.
It acts on the chronic bronchitis due to lung and kidney deficiency.
2. Hui Chun Ge Jie Jiu (Kidney-Nourishing Wine)
[ Ingredients ]
15g ge jie,gecko ( Concha Meretricis seu Cyclinae )
15g ren shen,ginseng ( Radix Ginseng )
30g yin yang huo
30g gou qi, wolfberry fruit ( Fructus Lycii)
20g yi zhi ren,bitter cardamon ( Fructus Alpiniae Oxyphyllae )
1500ml distilled spirit
[Preparation]
Put all the mentioned medical materials and distilled spirit into the bottle and seal the bottle. It is done in ten days. Take 20ml to 50ml before going to bed every night. If 20ml is too much for you, take less. But, you cannot take more than 100ml at a time.

Tonifying kidney yang and replenishing essence and blood.
It acts on female frigidity due to kidney yang deficiency. It consolidates yang for the male.
