Fructus Jujubae (Chinese Date)

Origin:

Chinese date

Chinese Date is dried ripe fruit of Ziziphus jujuba Mill. The drug is collected in autumn when ripe, and dried in the sun.

Chemical Ingredients:

Plenty of vitamin A, C and B2, etc. 14 kinds amino acid such as glutamic acid, lysine, arginine, etc. Organic acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, flavone and 36 microelement such as phosphor, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron etc.

Action and Indications:

To tonify the spleen and replenish qi, to nourish blood, and to ease the mind.

Anorexia, lassitude and loose stools in deficiency syndromes of the spleen, hysteria in women.

Recipes of Medicated Diet:

1. Confected Logan Aril and CHinese Date

[Ingredients]:

250g longan aril

250g fresh Chinese date

250g honey and some ginger juice

[Preparation]:

Boil the washed longan aril and chinese date over strong fire. Turn to mild fire when it is 70% done. Then add ginger juice and honey. Stir well. When it is well done, let it cool. Transfer the soup to a container and seal it. Take 6 to 8 longan aril and Chinese date each time, three times a day.

Semen Euryales (Gordon Euryale Seed)

Gordon Euryale Seed

Origin:

Gordon Euryale Seed is dried kernel of ripe seed of Euryale ferox Salisb. The ripe fruits is collected in late autumn and early winter and peeled, the drug is taken out, washed, removed from hard shell (testa), and dried in the sun.

Chemical Ingredients:

It has a lot of starch. And it also has protein, fattiness oil, carbohydrates, and microcrystalline calcium, phosphor, iron, and  vitamin C.

Action and Indications:

To benefit the kidney and arrest seminal discharge, to invigorate the function of the spleen and relieve diarrhea, and to remove damp and check excessive leukorrhea.

Fructus Chaenomelis (Common Flowering Quince Fruit)

Origin:

Common Flowering Quince Fruit

Common Flowering Quince Fruit is the dried nearly ripe fruit of Chaenomels speciosa (sweet) Nakai. The drug is collected in summer and autumn when it turns greenish-yellow, boiled in water until the exocarp becomes greyishwhite in colour, halved longitudinally, and dried in the sun.

Action and Indications:

To lessen contracture, regulate stomach function and dispel damp.

Arthritis with ankylosis, aching and heaviness sensation of the loins and knees; systremma due to womiting and diarrhea; edema and weakness of the legs.

Place of Production:

Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan and Zhejiang in China. Xuancheng in the Anhui province is the most famous place of production.

Semen Lablab Album (White Hyacinth Bean)

Semen Lablab Album (White Hyacinth Bean), the Chinese name is Baibiandou.White Hyacinth Bean

Origin:

White Hyacinth Bean is the dried ripe speed of Dolichos labla L. The fruit is collected in autumn and winter when ripe, dried in the sun, and the drug is gathered, and dried again in the sun.

Description and Identification:

Flattened-elipsoidal or flattened-ovoid, 8~13mm long, 6~9mm wide, about 7mm thick. Externally pale yellow-white or pale yellow, smooth, somewhat lustrous, with a white, prominent half-moom-shaped caruncle at the edge of one side. Texture hard, Testa thin and brittle, cotyledones 2, plump, yellowish-white. Odour, slight; taste. weak, ean-like on chewing.

Radix Glycyrrhizae (Licorice Root)–Chinese name GANCAO

Origin:Licorice Root

Licorice Root is the dried root and rhizome of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fishch., Glycyrrhiza inflata Bat. or Glycyrrhiza glabra L. The drug is collected in spring and autumn, removed from rootlet, dried in the sun.

Chemical Ingredients:

There is glycyrrhizin in its root and rhizoma, which is the kalium or calcium salt of glycyrrhizic acid. There are also liquiritin, liquiritigenin, isoliquiritin, isoliquiritigenin, neoliquiritin, neoisoiiquiritin, etc.

Licorice RootAction and Indications:

To reinforce the function of the spleen and replenish qi, to remove heat and counteract toxicity, to dispel phlegm and relieve cough, to alleviate spasmodic pain, and to moderate drug actions.

Place of production:

Inner mongolia, Shanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, etc of CHINA.
