Tokay is the dried body of Gekko gecko Linnaeus. The drug is captured all the year round; remove from the viscera, wiped, opened with bamboo piece to make the whole body flattened and straight, and dried at a low temperature.

Description and Identification
Flattened slice in shape, head, neck and trunk 9 ~ 18cm long. Head and neck about one third as long as snout-vent; the dorsum and abdomen 6 ~ 11cm wide; tail 6 ~ 12cm long. The head somewhat flat triangualr.two eyes sunken deeply,forming holes. Tiny teeth present in the mouth,located at the margin of the jaw,heteromorphic large tooth lacking. The snout semirounded at tip,rostral not con-tactin nostril,but in contact with nasal; lsupranasal at each side, 12 to 14 pairs of upper labials,21 lower labials mental included. The trunk elliptic,the abdomen thin,the dorsum greyish-green spots scattered or concentrated to indistinct patterns. The vertebrae and ribs of both sides projecting. Four limbs all having 5 digits,bearing scansors at the base, and trace of web between the digits. Tail narrow and stong,the caudal vertebrae barely visible. Grund colour of the tail similar to that of the dorsum, with 6 ~ 7 distinct silver-grey circular band. Whole body densely covered with rounded or polygonal, somewhat lustrous,tiny scales. Odour,stinking; taste, slightly salty.

Chemical Ingredients
carnosine, choline, carnitine, guanine, protein, cholesterol, some kinds amino acid and phospholipid , etc.

Property and Channel Tropism
Property: salty in taste, neutral in nature. Channel tropism: lung,kidney.

Radix Polygoni Multiflori Preparata (Heshouwu)—Fleeceflower Root

Prepared Fleeceflower Root is the dried root tuber of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. Processed in the black bean menthod.

Description and Identification
Mass or irregular fusiform,6 ~ 15cm long,4 ~ 12cm in diameter. Externally reddish-brown, shrunken and uneven,shallowly grooved,with transverse elongated lenticels and lime roodet scars. Tecture heavy,compact,uneasily broken,fracture pale yellowish-brown or reddish-brown,starchy, bark exhibiting 4-11 subrounded rings abnormal vascular bundles,forming brocaded patterns, wood in central part relatively large,some having a woody core. Odourless; taste, bitterish, sweetish and astringent.

Chemical Ingredients
It has phospholipid, saccharides, and anthraquinones compound, chrysophenine glycoside, starch, fat, etc.

Property and Channel Tropism
Property: slightly sweet, acerbity and bitter in taste, warm in nature. Channel tropism: liver, heart, kidney.

Action and Indications
Supplementing liver and kidney, nourishing essence and blood darkening the air and strengthening the tendon.
Weakness due to blood deficiency, dizziness, tinnitus, premature grey hair, lassitude of the loins and legs .numbness in the limbs , hematorrhea, leukorrhagia, chronic malaria, high blood cholesterol.

Radix Astagali (HuangQi) Recipes

Origin

Astragalus Root is the dried roots of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch) Bge. astragalus root Radix Astagali (HuangQi) Recipesvar. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao or Astragalus membranaceus (Fish.) Bge. The drug is collected in psring and autumn, removed from rootlet and root stock, dried in the sun.

Action and Indications

To reinforce qi and strengthen the superficial resistance, and to promote the discharge of pus and the growth of new tissue.

Radix Astragali (processed with honey): to reinoforce qi and invigorate the function of the spleen

Deficiencu of qi with lack of strength, anorexia and stools, sinking of the spleed qi manifested by chronic diarrhea, prolapse of the rectum, hematochezi and abnormal uterine bleeding; spontaneous sweating due to weakened superficial resistance; edema due to deficiency of qi; abscess difficult to hurst or heal; anemia; diabetes caused by internal heat; albuminuria in chronic nephritis; diabetes melitus.

Radix Astragali (processed with honey): Deficiency of Qi with lack of strength, anorexia and loose stools.
